From Autumn 2022 till Spring 2023 I was artist in residence at the Reinwardt Academy.
This residency explores the link between ownership and understanding.
The Reinwardt Academy views heritage as a process, an assigned value intended to pass something historical to the future. Heritage, therefore, is a collection of information and claims shaped by ownership and knowledge.
‘Theft’ served as my starting point for this residency, offering a unique vantage from which to explore and challenge the space around me. As an agent-provocateur, I tackled what I did not understand by moving, stealing, and infiltrating, replacing what I stole with watercolored trompe l’oeil drawings.
At the end I staged a festive salon during which I presented a surtout de table that I made during my research concerning stealing and apparent superficiality.
Furthermore my surtout was inspired by plants, Bruno Tauts Glass Pavillion, Solomon’s Temple, the stairwell of the Stedelijk Museum, Katsura palace, the Reinwardt building, Yasmin tea, and last but not least Patrick Swayze’s lift and everything I stole.
